30 Years of Business & Teaching Experience Contributes to Your Success
Peter came to Northern Virginia from Upstate New York.
He grew up working in the family retail business – a chain of art needlework
stores. After attending Hobart College he had his first job in real estate as a
title examiner for Lawyers Title in the Bronx and Westchester County.
Peter returned to Upstate New York to open new stores
with his father and then moved to Virginia and founded Wild & Wooly
Needlecrafts with his wife, Paulla. The first store was in Falls Church at
Baileys Crossroads. The chain eventually grew to 13 stores in 4 states and, in
1982 &1983 was honored by INC Magazine as one of the 500 fastest growing
private companies in the US. (The INC 500)
While growing the business, Peter earned a business
degree with an emphasis in Real Estate at American University. The focus of his
program included Real Estate Investment Strategies and development. He also
completed the course required for a Maryland real estate license.
The skills Peter developed in the retail business
enhance the value he brings to his real estate clients. He was responsible for
site selection, lease and contract negotiations, store design, marketing,
personnel management, systems design and day to day operations. In any
business, success requires a high level of customer service. Peter developed
systems that brought his vision of the ultimate customer experience to life in
his company and communicated that vision to the staff.
Paulla came to Virginia as one of the
first women students at the University of Virginia. She graduated with a
Masters Degree and is certified to teach both learning disabled and emotionally
disturbed students. Her career in the Fairfax County School System presented
opportunities to work with children in the elementary, middle-school and high
school levels, through-out the county. She was chosen to train and coach
Special Education and Regular Education teachers, introducing them to
techniques for multi-modality teaching and classroom management. Paulla was
also chosen to test and evaluate students and determine their eligibility for
Special Education services.
Paulla took leave from teaching, while her
children were young, and joined Peter in their retail art needlework business.
For five years she held the position of Human Resources Director. Her natural
ability to relate to the staff and support them in a way that built their
confidence and their skills served her well. Her success was based on a highly
developed ability to identify people with natural gifts and the abilities that
allowed them to thrive and love their work.
After retirement, Paulla earned her real estate
license and again joined Peter in business. Her experience in education, and as
a mother, is valuable in assisting parents in locating a home. Her ability to
relate to people, to listen and learn about clients' wants and needs, helps
clients make decisions that serve both them and their families. As a government
retiree Paulla can relate to people who are looking forward to moving to
vacation and retirement properties. As a real estate investor, she is able to
share her experience in building wealth through appreciation and cash flow for
passive income from rental properties.
